What is a Rest Day?
This is a day you take pause from your normal routine; it could be planned or unplanned. Having a rest day doesn’t mean that you won’t do anything but not partaking in hard labor activities.
A rest day could be abstaining from work, exercise, meetings or strenuous activities. Rest day involves meditating, walking, biking, stretching, and gentle activities which helps to boost the body and mind healing process.
If you do not take personal rest, it can be a big hurdle to achieving your goals.
How do you know you need to take a rest?
- You feel Tired
Waking up and feeling really tired is a sign you need to rest. Your energy levels are low, having aches around the body which are caused by excessive stress. Tiredness means your body is breaking down and deserves some rest.
- You are Moody
If you notice you get irritated easily, feeling depressed and over-thinking. You might need to take a rest or see a therapist
- You having trouble Concentrating
You get distracted by your environment, thoughts, and can’t complete a task. It is a sign you need to go off a while and reschedule. Having anxieties, Post-traumatic syndromes etc. would make one unable to not concentrate.
- You are feeling Unmotivated
Feeling not motivated means lack of drive or enthusiasm to know what to do. Unmotivated to do certain things can lead to diminished productivity, poor level communication, low levels of engagement in your day to day activities.
- You are feeling Dehydrated
You drink water and still feel like it’s not enough, that’s a sign you need a break.
- Constant Headaches
Headaches are caused by stress, loud noises, and tight head wear. This is caused by inflammation or problems with the blood vessels, infections, and pressures.
- Poor Sleep
Study shows every human needs at least 6 hours of sleep daily to attain productivity. Sleep gives your body energy by allowing it to recover and rebuild.
These are caused by poor diets, excessive stress, depression, illness, too much sleep, work worries, poor medical checkup.
How Can I Take a Rest
- Take a cold shower
- Self Reflection
- Get a Massage
- Have a warm drink and healthy meal
- Take a silent walk without phones etc
- Listen to soothing music
- Journaling: If you can write down how you feel that helps too
- Positive thoughts: where I wish to be, family etc.
Although, rest days don’t work the same for everyone and YES everyone needs to recover.
