How Does Overthinking Affect You?
“Are overthinkers liable to die, Young?,” my fifteen-year-old daughter asked me, with her curious eyes fixed on mine.
I sighed deeply, wondering how to answer her question without leaving out value.
“They are just like smokers who would die at a young age if they don’t stop consuming cigarettes, which are bad for their kidneys.
Overthinkers may die untimely deaths too..unless?”
“Unless what, mom?” she queried with uneasiness now.
“They stop.”
An average human being thinks way too many thoughts.
Some may think about how they are poor, and others are better than them, day and night, without looking for a way of getting out of poverty.
Ultimately, those injurious thoughts lead them to their early graves without wealth.
Others may consider themselves unlucky because they have no work or even lost their jobs.
This pushes them to dwell on the arms of thinking continuously, and the truth is that it doesn’t bring them out of their life’s losses!
Why do we worry too much when depression and frustration can only take and take all the peace we have, giving us pain and nothingness?
How Does Overthinking Affect You?
Overthinking leads to so many dreadful things like;
1. Ingratitude: You forget the things that are present in your life and always hunger for what is not there.
2. Lack of self-care: It makes you neglect yourself, draining you mentally and physically.
3. No growth: When you overthink, your thoughts and how they can improve do not go into the future.
It only weakens and makes you stunted and fixed on past events, like after a relationship break-up or the loss of a loved one.
4. Dissatisfaction: You will not be contented with what you have if you always think about what is not there. You fail to notice your little progress.
5. Premature Death: Repeated overthinking leads to hypertension, which all point to death cases.
For example, when a bereaved person overthinks, they may develop health issues or resort to suicide.
The Impact of overthinking is deadly, so one is advised not to overthink no matter the circumstances.
Instead, you should try to overcome overthinking through these four strategies:
How to Overcome Overthinking
1. Think positively: Your mind should be a bed of happy, beautiful, and optimistic thoughts.
It doesn’t mean you are not allowed to grieve or remember the things you lack or lost; it means that you encourage yourself to think better even when those negative thoughts come.
2. Practise personal growth: If you don’t want to grow, you will always be overthinking almost everything that happens to you.
Shift your mindset, and feelings to only reflect on thoughts that are good for your growth.
3. Adapt self-care: When you love yourself more, you won’t let lack, sadness, or anxiety remove the kindness you should show yourself.
Meditate on positive thoughts, seek the therapist’s advice, exercise your body, and get over whatever is troubling you.
4. Solve your problems!: Your thoughts should only linger on different ways and how to find better solutions to your problems.
This relieves your mind from anxiety and mental and health issues, giving you solutions instead of regret.
