How to spread the gospel
What did God call you to do? Spread the gospel!
Let’s start with the meaning of commission.
What is a Commission?
It is an official duty given to one or a group of people to carry out within a particular time. Think of military officers and how they go to places where they are stationed for operations. They are simply doing what they are called to do: Their commission.
Their purpose in joining the military is to serve and protect others. However, some are stationed to stay behind and not in the field.
It is similar to what your heavenly Father calls you to do—even greater things.
What Does Spreading the Gospel Mean?
This has a broad meaning, but let’s start a little and progress to the bigger version. To spread the gospel means to share God’s word in every way you can with God’s help.
In that way, you tell other people about the love, goodness, mercies, redemption, and salvation of Christ Jesus. We should encourage them to mend their ways and return to God, their Creator.
Another name for spreading the gospel is Evangelism.
What Does God Say About Spreading the Gospel?
As the commander and director of the instruction of spreading the gospel, God highlighted in various verses of the Bible that we all should share the good news of him with others. Over twenty (20) verses of the Bible present this.
Scriptures on How to Spread the Gospel
- In Psalms 96:3 (KJV): Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people.
- Matthew 28:19 (KJV): Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and the Holy Ghost:
- Mark 16:15 instructs us to go into the world and preach the gospel.
- Luke 24:47 (KJV): And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
- 2 Corinthians 5:20 (KJV) Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.
How to Spread the Gospel
Just like every other work you do in life and how you make different varieties of food, there are ways you can spread the gospel, and this can take various forms;
- Personal discussions you have with others where you tell them about Christ.
- Preaching out there by creating time to visit prison houses, hospitals, streets, and familiar places to tell them that Jesus Christ matters.
- Social media is a popular tool that allows you to reach a large audience online. You can write or make videos teaching about Jesus Christ and post them on online platforms like Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, TikTok.etc.

Knowing People You Want to Preach to:
Who and where do you want to spread the gospel? When you discover the lives of the individuals you wish to bring to Jesus Christ and where they are, you have a clear vision of how to go about Evangelism.
The Bible is Your Best Tool:
There’s a tool for checking the heartbeat stethoscope. Many for eating- plates, spoons, and forks.
In the same sense, the Bible is the best tool for spreading the word of God. Spread the gospel concerning the Bible and all it has to say about Christ.
Share the Good News of Christ and the Consequences of Remaining in Sin:
Christ came for the sinners in Luke 5:32. So, tell them about Christ’s love, life, death, and resurrection and how it was all for our good.
Also, explain how their sin can hinder them from receiving eternal salvation in Christ and embracing hell forever.
Encouraging People to Follow Jesus:
This is the most essential part of Evangelism- drawing people to follow the steps of Jesus Christ and become lovers. Give people the truth. Tell them that believing in Jesus makes them forgiven.
Surrendering their lives totally to him brings a transformation from their old lives to a new life in him.
Final Dose
Christians are called to discipleship through the Great Commission to share the salvation message. As you are spreading the good news, gospel, or evangelizing, you are receiving physical and spiritual rewards.
Unbelievers need to know your testimony about God and others in order to believe God. So, you must return them- the lost souls- to God.
This is because heaven rejoices when a single soul repents(see Luke 15:7).
